Namibia
On the trails of immensity

Barely behind Windhoek, the journey changes pace. Heading towards the Namib, the tarmac quickly gives way to tracks and the first encounters with wildlife soon follow.

The kilometers pass and, little by little, the horizon closes in. The first hills announce the Namib.

One night at Gecko Camp. A final comfortable stop before heading to Sesriem and living a few days at the rhythm of the desert.

Sesriem Canyon, carved by the waters of the Tsauchab. A first discovery before truly entering the Namib.

Sesriem will be our base for four short nights. The heat reaches 45°C during the day, and for a photographer, the best times are dawn and dusk.

For four days, we will traverse the desert in the first and last light of day. The colors, shadows, and shapes are constantly changing. Sossusvlei and Deadvlei, however, are well worth lingering in...

Here, the road is shared!

The distances are vast, the properties immense. At Kanaan, we'll camp in the heart of nature, miles away from any other person, with only ostriches, gazelles, birds of prey, lizards, and other distant creatures as our neighbors... with the mountains in the distance as our only boundary ! A true sense of solitude in this immensity!

Having simply set out to explore the area and get closer to the dunes, we witnessed an unexpected phenomenon: the Namib mists had traveled nearly 120 kilometers from the coast and enveloped every hillside. A rare spectacle that would completely transform the landscape.

On the trails, distances dictate their pace. The landscape, however, is constantly changing.

Near Keetmanshoop, the distinctive silhouettes of quiver trees stand out against a stark, mineral landscape. That evening, the approaching storm would completely transform the scenery.

Our journey then continues to the border between Namibia and South Africa, for 4 nights within the KTP (Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park), an immense nature reserve of 38,000 km² (larger than Belgium!) in the heart of the Kalahari Desert, straddling South Africa and Botswana!

An encounter with life in the heart of the Kalahari

The final leg takes us back to Windhoek, across the Kalahari. At Bagatelle, the tracks wind through golden grasses and the evening light regains that softness so characteristic of southern Africa.
It is also here that an unexpected encounter with members of the San people will take place. An encounter that, in itself, deserves to be recounted.
