Land and marine iguanas of the Galapagos
With their almost prehistoric appearance, iguanas are among the iconic inhabitants of the Galapagos. Land or marine, they display an astonishing diversity of colours, shapes and attitudes.
The Santa Fe land iguana, endemic to this island, is distinguished by its paler colour and larger size.
Marine iguanas
The marine iguana has an extraordinary ability to adapt. A vegetarian, it is the only lizard in the world that forages for food in the sea. After diving into the cold waters, it returns to volcanic rocks to warm itself in the sun.
